Travels ‘Down Under’

After leaving China I spent the better part of a month in Bangkok before jumping on a plane and heading south to Australia.

I have heard loads about Australia and Australians. The typical stereotypes: they drink Fosters, love a ‘barby’, spend most of their time on the beach and that it is a massive and spectacular country jump to mind. I never thought at this stage in my life I would get a chance to verify or dismiss these assumptions but here I am with an open road in front of me and 7 weeks to explore the largest island in the world.

Quintessential Australia?
Quintessential Australia.

My basic itinerary is as follows:

5 Days – Sydney.

25 Days – Backpacking from Sydney (north) to Cairns.

19 days – Travel around the Adelaide area with my sister.

I journey from south to north from Sydney to Cairns. The most famous backpacking Australia has to offer.

I would like to say how excited I was about arriving in Australia and how privileged I felt having this unbelievable opportunity to travel down under. My sister (Katie) has been living in this part of the world for the last few years and very recently became engaged to a native auzy (Chris), so whilst I was ‘in the area’ I decided to seize the chance to visit her newly adopted country.

I fully expect to see some amazing places, be shocked by the local wildlife and have some great experiences. I hope you enjoy following me on my latest geographiesthis adventure.
